They're not going to look into the real cost of development, they probably don't realize that this game simply wouldn't exist without a very unique funding system, and as is common with early access games, gamers are still adapting and learning regarding the reality that complex games simply game a ton of time to create.

On top of that, shouldn't consumers have the freedom to spend their money on a game if it's something they enjoy? I've put maybe 800 dollars into FFXIV subscriptions alone and a combined 700 into Star Citizen, and I honestly feel like the 700 in Star Citizen has much greater personal value to me than the money I put into FFXIV.īut ultimately, I want to get opinions on this, because the argument always baffled me, especially in recent months with some of the impressive tech that's been revealed and the steady stream of content that's been released. You're gaining the ships as a reward for backing the project, it seems different than your normal product purchase since the funds are going towards the ongoing development. I did think about the ship pricing, but even then it's not a solid argument. I don't mean this post to be a comment on the state of the game, it's very obviously not finished, and there are legitimate criticisms for how slowly some things have been implemented, but it seems weird that there's a common thread of "it's a scam" when in my experience, every scam produces nothing in return for the mark. Just this week we've spent something like 20-30 hours in either PTU or Arena Commander having a ton of fun, even with the 30ks and falling through floors in quantum. Sure, the updates could be larger, include more features, whatever, but there is obviously work being done and a product being maintained.Īs of right now, my friends and I can load into a server together, hop into my Carrack, and get into all kind of shenanigans (like challenging a bounty hunter to a fistfight in the forward garage or skydiving to our deaths over Hurston).
I can log in, fly around, do missions, and experience something. It may have tons of issues due to being in development, but it's THERE. We can't seem to figure out the justification for this argument primarily due to two reasons: I've had a few discussions with my friends about Star Citizen, in particular about the common criticism that it's a scam.
